Lisa Conte, President & Chief Executive Officer
Ms. Conte has served as our President, Chief Executive Officer and a member of our board of directors since she founded the company in June 2013. From 2001 to 2014, Ms. Conte served as the Chief Executive Officer of Napo Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company she founded in November 2001. In 1989, Ms. Conte founded Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a natural product pharmaceutical company. Additionally, Ms. Conte is Napo Pharmaceutical’s current Interim Chief Executive Officer and has served as a member of its board of directors since 2001. Ms. Conte is also currently a member of the board of directors of Healing Forest Conservatory, a California not-for-profit public benefit corporation. Ms. Conte holds an M.S. in Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of California, San Diego, and an M.B.A. and A.B. in Biochemistry from Dartmouth College.
Steven King, Ph.D., Executive Vice President of Sustainable Supply, Ethnobotanical Research and IP
Dr. King has served as our Executive Vice President of Sustainable Supply, Ethnobotanical Research and Intellectual Property since March 2014. From 2002 to 2014, Dr. King served as the Senior Vice President of Sustainable Supply, Ethnobotanical Research and Intellectual Property at Napo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Prior to that, Dr. King served as the Vice President of Ethnobotany and Conservation at Shaman Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Dr. King has been recognized by the International Natural Products and Conservation Community for the creation and dissemination of research on the long-term sustainable harvest and management of Croton lechleri, the widespread source of crofelemer. Dr. King is currently a member of the board of directors of Healing Forest Conservatory, a California not-for-profit public benefit corporation. Dr. King holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the Institute of Economic Botany of the New York Botanical Garden and an M.S. in Biology from the City University of New York.
Karen Wright, Chief Financial Officer & Treasurer
Ms. Wright joined Jaguar’s team in December 2015. She brings more than 30 years of financial experience with a number of international biotech companies. Prior to joining Jaguar Animal Health, Ms. Wright most recently was head of finance for Clene Nanomedicine. She also served as vice president of finance and corporate controller at multiple other private and public companies, including Veracyte and Intermune, which was acquired by Roche. Early in her career, Ms. Wright spent 13 years at Genentech building a strong foundation in the biotech industry. Ms. Wright has been responsible for financial reporting and operational financial planning and analysis, including R&D, clinical, marketing and sales, G&A and manufacturing; as well as tax and treasury planning. She has participated in three IPOs and numerous offerings. Ms. Wright holds a BS in Accounting and Marketing from the University of California Walter A. Haas School Of Business.
Rustom Masalawala, Senior Vice President, International Markets
Rustom Masalawala has worked in the developing world for the past 15 years in a broad range of countries and across multiple sectors. Prior to joining Jaguar he was the Vice President of Business Development for Venture Dairy, an organization dedicated to investing in the dairy sector in the developing world, with the goal of completing the value chain from the smallholder farmer to the final consumer markets. From 2008 to 2011, he was the Director of Business Development at Millennium Promise, a project of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, dedicated to using a holistic approach to bring people out of the poverty trap. The project spanned ten countries and fourteen different locations across Sub-Saharan Africa and directly benefited close to one million people. In 2001 he joined Acumen Fund as one of the earliest employees and ran their health portfolio for five years, focusing primarily on South East Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Over the years he has held several senior consulting positions, including working with Napo Pharmaceuticals where he formed international joint ventures. Mr. Masalawala holds a Bachelors in Physics/Math from the University of Mumbai, a Masters in Computer Science from SUNY, and a Diploma in Business Management from Xavier’s Institute of Management.
Bobba Venkatadri, Executive Vice President, Manufacturing and Supply Chain
Bobba brings over 30 years of US and international senior executive leadership in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Mr. Venkatadri is Senior VP of Operations at Aaradigm Pharmaceuticals. Previously he was Executive Vice President of Operations for Dissent RTP, Inc., a division of Akzo Nobel; Chief Executive Officer of Molecular Bios stems, Inc.; Executive Vice President of Centocor; President of Warner-Lambert Indonesia; and Vice President, US Operations of Parke-Davis. He has contributed to more than 5 product approvals, including several manufactured at overseas facilities in compliance with US FDA guidelines.
